Career Development Through Volunteering

Building a successful career can be challenging, especially for individuals who are new to the workforce or unfamiliar with professional systems in the United States. Language barriers, limited access to career guidance, and a lack of opportunities to gain practical experience can make it difficult for many people to take the first step toward meaningful employment. Access to training, mentorship, and supportive resources can play an important role in helping individuals develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed.

EMDAD provides community members with opportunities to gain professional experience through volunteer service in our tax assistance program. Volunteers receive IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) certification training, which allows them to become qualified volunteer tax preparers.

In addition to the IRS certification, EMDAD provides specialized training and mentorship to help volunteers develop practical tax preparation skills, client communication, and professional work experience. Through this program, volunteers gain valuable hands-on experience while serving the community.

EMDAD helps individuals build strong resumes, develop professional skills, and apply for employment opportunities. We understand that many newcomers face challenges such as language barriers, limited access to technology, and unfamiliarity with the job application process.

To support them, our office provides a quiet workspace with free internet access, laptops, and printers, allowing people to prepare resumes, search for jobs, and submit applications. Our team also offers guidance to help individuals confidently navigate the job search process and take the next steps toward meaningful employment.

By combining education, professional training, and real-world experience, EMDAD helps volunteers turn community service into meaningful career development.
